Amos – Sermon 11 – A Righteous Response to Rebellion – Amos 7:1-9

Amos receives three visions from God concerning Israel. In the first vision, God shows a swarm of locusts that would devastate the land. Amos prays for Israel, and God relents. In the second vision, God sends a consuming fire, but again Amos intercedes, and God withholds the judgment.

In the third vision, God shows Amos a plumb line, a tool used to measure whether a wall is straight. God declares that He is measuring Israel by His righteous standard and will no longer overlook their sin. Because the nation has turned from Him, judgment will come, and the places of worship and the royal house of Jeroboam will be destroyed.
