Amos – Sermon 8 – Great Expectations – Amos 5:18-27

Aug 2, 2026    Andrew Goins

Amos warns Israel that they should not eagerly desire the Day of the Lord, because it will bring judgment rather than blessing due to their sin. The people were faithfully performing religious ceremonies and offering sacrifices, but God rejected their worship because their lives lacked justice and righteousness. Amos calls for justice to flow like a river and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream. Because of their hypocrisy and idolatry, God declares that they will be taken into exile.
